1. Overview


After completing a search the Search View will be shown with an overview of all found matches. If you cannot see this view, go to Window > Show View > Search or Window > Show View > Other... and select the Search View.

The view consists of two parts, the local toolbar (1) positioned next to the tab and the content area containing the matches (2). You can handle, move, minimize and maximize the view using the tab. For example, double clicking the tab will maximize the view when it's not already maximized and vice versa.

2. Local Toolbar


The local toolbar displays actions that can be executed upon a certain match or the whole content of the content area. Here is a quick overview of all the possible actions.

  Show next match in the content area and the file editor.

Apart from the actions that are visible by standard, you can also find a few actions in the context menu by clicking on the downward arrow:

  • Show as List: Show the content as a list of files containing matches.
  • Show as Tree: Show the content as a tree of all matches with their file as their parent. (Recommended)
  • Filters...: Limit the number of top level elements.

  • Preferences...: Go to the preference page of the search functionality. You can find more information about this preference page in the following article: Search

3. Content Area


The content area has two display options, the list view and the tree view, displaying the files containing matches and the matches themselves.


When you click on one of the files or matches a context menu will appear with the following options, depending on your selection:

  Open the file in its default editor.      
Open With Open the file with a different editor.

  Expand All Expand the whole tree of results.      
  Copy Copies the selected match to the clipboard. C C  
  Remove Selected Matches Remove selected matches from the content area.  
  Remove All Matches Remove all matches from the content area.      
  Replace Selected... Replace the selected match with a different string.      
Replace All... Replace all found matches with a different string.      
  Search Again Run the current search again. F5 F5  Search
